POSITION: MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST

OPEN: MAY 10, 2024

CLOSE: OPEN UNTIL FILLED

CLASS DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the Student Services’ ERICS (Educationally Related Intensive Counseling Services) ERSS (Extended Recovery and Support Services) Social Worker will be responsible for providing direct mental health services to students with intensive needs, including individual, group, and parent counseling, consultation, and treatment coordination to students and families to improve school performance. Services will be provided in both the school and home settings to support service delivery and safety planning as outlined in the student’s IEP, support their social-emotional goals and educational access.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: The ERICS ERSS Social Worker is required to hold a Master’s Degree and license in Social Work (LCSW), Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).

Knowledge and Skills: The ERICS ERSS Social Worker should have an extensive knowledge of

evidence-based practices and possess the ability to implement student and family services with fidelity within the school and home settings, including: demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relations with certificated and classified employees, parents, pupils, and the community.

Abilities: The ERICS ERSS Social Worker should have the ability to organize and present ideas effectively in oral and written form. Ability to meet state standards of physical and mental health. Valid California driver’s license and appropriate transportation vehicle.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provide direct mental health services including individual, group, and parent counseling, consultation, and treatment coordination to students and families to help resolve interpersonal or family problems that interfere with school performance.

· Provide in-home support services and safety planning to families and students to support their social-emotional goals and educational access.

· Conducts family meetings with students who are returning from a mental health hold.

· Assess student progress through consistent review of classroom data collection and recording systems and provide applicable training and guidance to classroom staff accordingly in addressing student needs.

· Assess students for danger to self or others by completing suicide and threat risk assessments.

· Facilitate necessary referrals to the Department of Mental Health (DMH) School Threat Assessment Response Team (START), Psychiatric Mobile Response Team (PMRT), or Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) according to legal and district guidelines/timelines.

· Provide prevention and intervention services, group and individual counseling for students.

· Provide consultation and collaboration with staff to support fostering pro-social skills and increasing self-regulation skills in the educational setting.

· Plan and conduct training and education for staff, students, and parents as appropriate in the areas of mental health development, emotional function and regulation, social skills development, parent intervention strategies, and other appropriate topics.

· Provide crisis intervention services as needed.

· Attend IEP, and other meetings, and work collaboratively with case carriers and related service providers in order to address and support the social-emotional needs of our students.

· Develop measurable mental health counseling goals and report quarterly progress on those goals using Special Education Information System (SEIS).

Work closely with outside mental health providers and assist with community linkage, as necessary.

· Provide support for students at risk of needing a higher level of social emotional support through educationally necessary Residential Treatment Center (RTC) placement.

· Work with ERICS Administrator and IEP teams to support implementing goals for students returning from RTC.

· Complete LEA Medi-Cal billing for ERMHS/ERICS services and assessments.

· Maintain data/records, including treatment records, of students provided mental health counseling services.

· Practice professional renewal by attending program related meetings, trainings, workshops, seminars, etc. It may be required to travel to attend professional development activities.

· Maintain confidentiality of all student records, including treatment goals/services, and IEPs.

· Annually complete all BBS mandated Continuing Education and provide Human Resources with verification of your current and renewed license.

· Participates in district in-service training as required.

· Manage protocols for service delivery and ensure uniformity across school sites.

· Performs other related job duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Visual ability to read handwritten or typed documents, and the display screen of various office equipment and machines. Able to conduct verbal conversation. Able to hear normal range verbal conversation (approximately 60 decibels). Able to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend and walk. Able to sit for sustained periods of time. Able to climb slopes, stairs, steps, ramps, and ladders. Able to lift up to 20 pounds. Able to carry up to 20 pounds. Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder external rotation and internal rotation. Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder abduction and adduction. Able to exhibit full range of motion for elbow flexion and extension. Able to exhibit full range of motion for shoulder extension and flexion. Able to exhibit full range of motion for back lateral flexion. Able to exhibit full range of motion for hip flexion and extension. Able to exhibit full range of motion for knee flexion. Able to operate office machines and equipment in a safe and effective manner. Able to demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to operate calculator, typewriter, and/or computer keyboard at the required speed and accuracy.

REQUIRED TO: Hold and maintain a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License, proper insurance and a driving record satisfactory to the District. Pass a required physical examination and drug test. Submit to fingerprint testing through the California Bureau of Justice and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

SUPERVISION FROM: Director of Special Education

HOURS: 8 hours per day / 12 months per year

SALARY: Range 002 on the Classified Management Salary Schedule, Step 1 ($7,453.97 per month)
