Responsibilities

Position Summary:

A WIC peer counselor is a paraprofessional support person who gives basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Two (2) years recent customer service experience.
High school diploma/GED.
Attends breastfeeding training classes to become a peer counselor.
Work towards attainment of certification as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or Certified Lactation Educator(CLE) within one year of hire.
Must be an active listener and demonstrate compassion for breastfeeding clients.
Must attend a series of breastfeeding classes observe outpatient lactation consultants and read assigned books and materials about breastfeeding.
Is enthusiastic about breastfeeding and wants to help breastfeeding clients enjoy a positive experience.
Has reliable transportation.
DRV LIC = Current driver's license
